In case it wasn't obvious, I've really had absolutely zero motivation to write for this blog for the last year or so.

I realized that I'd kinda written myself into a corner. The only time I ever wrote for Gull & Grackle was when something annoyed me and I needed to get it off of my chest in some way that seemed more productive than bitching to my friends. It was reactionary and annoying, and there are a couple of posts on this blog that I'm straight-up embarrassed that I wrote, even if I do still think the point I made was right. I might delete them, I might not. I dunno. I'm not sure how many people even read these posts anyways, so it's not like the world is gonna end if I make the wrong decision.

Gull & Grackle will be two years old next month. Since I started G&G in 2024, I've changed a lot. I left a lot of the social circles I was originally in, mostly for the better. I'm spending less time online in my free time. I got a big promotion at work. I'm starting to make art again. I've finally rekindled my magical practice and have begun several long-term magical projects (I'm considering adding another tag for my posts about magic). Allegedly my frontal lobe will be fully developed in a few months. A lot of the changes have been stressful and disorienting, but most of them have turned out pretty cool. I'd even like to think that I've mellowed out a little.

Some of my friends still have blogs, and most of them write about their own personal practices. What they're up to, what they're learning, cool stuff like that. I think that's the direction that I want to take G&G in 2026 and going forwards. I might still throw in a random hot take here and there, and I might still be a bit of a bitch in them, but the realization that that was slowly becoming my Thing on here was one of the main things that completely drained my interest in writing for the blog.

Building G&G was also, in a way, my first real hands-on lesson in HTML, CSS, and running an RSS feed on a static website, and that part of upkeeping the blog was really fun, if a bit tedious at times. I think getting more active on here again will hopefully motivate me to keep learning and inspire me to add more cool stuff to the site. That's basically how the entire process of building G&G went to begin with--I'd look at someone else's website and go "hey, that looks really neat, I wonder if I can make that work on my blog."

This has already ended up longer than I intended it to be. Basically, the content of this blog is gonna change, but not in some massive way. I might slap a new coat of paint on it if I feel up for it. Apologies for the dust, and cheers to hopefully more writing in 2026. I hope you're all well.
